I had called the previous evening to try to get a reservation at Movida but was advised they were fully booked. However, RT and I decided to try our luck as walk-ins. On arrival there were a few small groups waiting before us, however we were happy to order drinks and wait. Surprisingly we were seated within 10 minutes.
Movida Next Door is casual/communal dining. It's a great place to catch up with friends, have a drink and share small plates of food. When I say small, I mean tiny. Petite. Miniscule. You get the idea!
We had the White Tuan Belly, which to me tasted like canned tuna. Okay, fine it tasted a bit better than canned tuna but f-ck it's expensive. We also had the Croqueta, which are thumb-sized and filled with creamy mushroomy goodness. The Bomba was nothing spesh. A small ball of mashed potato with (apparently) chorizo (that I couldn't taste) inside. We also had a fish dish and a spatchcock dish which were the specials and they were pretty good, but again tiny portions.
I didn't have a problem with the food, although it may sound it... I quite enjoyed most of the dishes and also the service. What I kinda have an issue with, is the prices. Can you say exhorbitant?
EX.HOR.BI.TANT!
It's not fine dining, but you get fine dining prices and portions. I don't think I would return. I could get tapas at more reasonable prices elsewhere.
