Due to the cold weather and a huge dose of cbf'd, I was planning to stay in last Friday night and do a bit of design work. That obviously didn't happen. My friend TP convinced me to head out with her and a couple of gals to Captain Melville's for a few drinks and nibbles.
The establishment is housed in a two story bluestone building. I seriously do not know anything about architecture or eras, but I'm gonna take a stab and say it's Elizabethan/Victorian. Hm. You know those instances where people should just shut de fek up when they don't know what they're talking about? Well, this should be one of those aforementioned instances. ANYWAY, when you enter, you will find yourself in the front bar, which is casual but has a heap of quirkiness and character.
The staff are uber friendly and attentive. As soon as we were seated we grabbed a jug of cider to share, and focused our attention on the menu.
The bar menu is pub/bistro style, but done well and with a modern twist. We decided on the Beef brisket bagel, Dobsons hand cut chips; Salt and Sichuan pepper squid; Western plains pork belly bun; Togarashi soft shell crab roll; and smoked salmon tacos. The quality of the food is pretty good and most of the dishes were quite tasty. Stand out dish for me were the chips. Crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside - Holy moly they were the bomb diggity.

You can also have dinner there in their dining hall, which is pub style meals.
"The menu focuses on communal, casual eating, with shared dishes, steaks, snacks, and of course, the pub classics – all using house-made ingredients where possible."
They also have a dj that spins some really catchy upbeat tunes. We couldn't help but bop along in our seats. I think if we had enough to drink we would be up and dancing too.
I had such an awesome night drinking, eating and talking with the girls. We reminisced about our youth... flare legged jeans, bubble shoes, boyyys... ahh the good 'ol days.
