Sydney For The Weekend - Day One

This weekend I headed up to Sydney to visit an old friend (ST) -- And by old, I mean a long time friend... She's not quite busting out the walking stick just yet.

 

I arrived late Friday afternoon and after a quick pitstop to my friend's place to change and freshen up, we headed out for a quick dinner at Sushi Hotaru. It's a sushi train concept, but you can also order all the dishes off the ipad in front of you, which is coolbeans! Let me explain why it is so cool (btw, this only applies to people who have dined from a conveyor belt). Have you ever sat there, eyeing a dish slooowly come down the conveyor, while crossing every finger/toe and praying to the heavens and all that is holy, that no one else wants that particular dish... ONLY to have it snatched up by the patron 2 seats away?! That's why electronic ordering is THE BOMB DOT COM.

 

After dinner we headed down to The Argyle to meet up with a few people for drinks. Guess who else we saw there?! Kris Smith, the Myer spokes model AND more importantly (not really) Larry Emdur from The Price is Right! Mostly everyone was just commenting on how short Larry is in real life... also we we're thinking of what lines we would use if we were to talk to him, a lot of "come on down!" scenarios heh.

 

After the excitement, which was Larry Emdur(lol) we got bored, so caught a cab over to The Ivy. We grabbed some drinks at the bar and was stoppped by two dudes who were lingering around drinking the complimentary water. They started to talk to ST, but I knew I needed to intercept and cut this convo short, pronto! Politely I interrupted and said "heeey Johnny* is waiting for us downstairs!" and proceeded to drag her away. My friend's comment was "boy you are harsh, we could of at least gotten free drinks from them", in which my response was "dude, you ain't getting nothing from guys who are drinking the complimentary water". Random fact: I have never accepted a drink from a stranger. Ever.


* Johnny is a made up fictional character. He only exists in times of need, like the Room of Requirement in Harry Potter.
