Steer Bar & Grill

On Friday night I headed down to South Yarra with RT for dinner at Steer Bar and Grill. I would describe it as a modern and sleek steakhouse - Wooden furniture, dim lighting, but all done elegantly and tastefully.

This place is serious about their steaks with almost 40 different types of cuts. Our waitress offered to bring out a selection of cuts on a wooden board (after our approval) and explained the differences. This definitely helped us with making a decision. Kinda...

As we were perusing the menu, RT asked "are these numbers the recommended number of people to share the steak?"

... It was the marble score, lol. I found that really cute (and entertaining).

We started with the special, which was a lightly (aka practically raw) cooked tiger prawn, with a scallop mousseline and mussel juice. The prawns were very flavourful and paired well with the other seafood elements. It tasted very oceanic. I love that.

For main, we decided on the O'Connor Black Angus Rib Eye with mash potato and winter greens for sides. You can also choose from around 10 different condiments like mustard, romanesco, betroot relish etc., although in my opinion this was not required at all, as the steak was cooked a perfect medium-rare and had amazing flavour on it's own.

We didn't have dessert, as I was quite full. But looking at their web site now I kinda wish that we did. The desserts look awesome. Next time definitely!

As for service... impeccable. The staff are friendly, attentive and accommodating. They checked up on us consistently and must've refilled our water glasses a gazillion times. Also, for Friday and Saturday dinner bookings Steer offers two seating times; 6:30 or 8:30, and you have a maximum of two hours for your seating. We had the 6:30 seating and didn't leave until after 10. Not once were we impelled by staff to leave. When we did leave though, we were acknowledged by every staff member that we passed. Nice.

Pretty much a faultless dining experience.
