Sandbar Beach Cafe

Headed down to the Sandbar Beach Café in St Kilda on Sunday for a late lunch and to enjoy the view/people watch.

On arrival we were greeted with a smile by a friendly staff member and were advised that we could sit anywhere we fancied. Of course we chose a table right by the window, with an awesome view of St Kilda beach. Boy it was a brilliant day to sit by the seaside -- The sky was blue with a few cumulus clouds scattered here and there and the sun shining.

I ordered the roast pumpkin & snow pea shoot salad and my dining companion (RT) chose the risotto of pumpkin & split pea topped with roasted field mushroom. I'm not sure why/how we both ended up with pumpkin options... Well I kinda know why. We obviously both like pumpkin, but still!

Anyway, after we ordered I randomly asked "does eating a lot of pumpkin make your skin turn orange?"

RT looked a little incredulous and his eyes were like this --> O_O

He must've thought, WTH? Who is this girl and why is she asking such random questions. I had to explain that in high school, I had a friend who ate a carrot everyday for lunch and then her skin started to turn orange because of the carotene. I'm not talking oompa loompa orange, she just looked like she may have jaundice or a liver problem. So, I just thought since pumpkin is orange too y'know... I'm not insane.

Err... let's get back to the food eh? My salad was well, just a salad, but it was nicely seasoned and fresh. I had issues with the stupid pea shoots, they are not the easiest things to eat with a fork. I would've preferred chopsticks, although my chopstick skills are not anything to boast about. I also had a taste of RT's risotto and it was quite tasty. I don't usually order risotto when I dine out, because I'm afraid that I will get a humungous mound of rice the size of Mt. Everest and we all know people have died attempting Everest -- Jus sayin'

So the verdict... Love! I want to move there and become a squatter on their deck.
