Abla's Lebanese Restaurant

Headed down to Abla's in Carlton with a few friends on a Friday evening. On arrival (7.30pm) the place was already full, all two stories. The atmosphere is unpretentious and cozy, kind of like visiting nana's house, but this nana however is particularly popular :)

Shortly after being seated, a petite woman with a warm and inviting air came up to our table. I recognized her right away -- it was Abla herself! This is like celebrity spotting for me *food nerd alert* She welcomed us to the restaurant and wished us an enjoyable meal. This totally got the evening off to a delightful start. Abla could feed me bull's testicles(ewwlol) at this point and I wouldn't be inclined to say anything bad about her. Stoked!

The food - one word - Ahhmazing. Just a quick note, if you go on a Friday they only have the banquet option which is $60pp. But let me tell you it is SO worth every cent. You'll get to sample almost everything that's on their menu... dish after dish of deliciousness. My favourite dishes of the night, surprisingly were the vegetarian ones.

Silverbeet Rolls
Silverbeet leaves stuffed with rice, chickpeas, tomato, herbs and spices

Loubyeh
Green beans cooked with tomatoes, onion and spices

Are you wondering where the pictures of the dishes are? Apologies but I rarely take pictures when I dine out (with the exception of when I travel), because it's usually too dark and the photo comes out all grainy, plus I feel kinda self conscious. This is why I provide links to the web site when I mention a restaurant.

I totes recommend Abla's for quality Lebanese/Middle Eastern food. It's no wonder that this restaurant has received one hat consistently over the years.
